Hector is in his 3rd of 6 semesters studying Language at the Bautista Saavedra Higher Teachers Institute in the province of Omasuyos, and is a member of the Santidad Church in Achacachi. His parents are subsistence farmers.

Israel is studying Mathematics at UMSA. He is a member of INELA (National Evangelical Friends Yearly Meeting)

"I was a Christian since I was born. I grew up in the country and moved here about five years ago. I am the secretary of my church, and am always pretty busy. After high school I did some extra work to bring my skills up to level before entering the university.

Janelle’s interest in music grew out of her family’s rich musical heritage. She is now in her sixth semester studying music education at the Simon Bolivar Teacher Education School.

Juan José Choque Quispe

UPDATE: Juan has finished his degree in Dentistry and is currently seeking employment.

Juan José expects to complete his studies this year in dentistry at the University of San Andrés. His favorite subjects include Dental Surgery and Orthodontics. Together with classmates Ana Callisaya, Ruth Calle Kasa, and Carlos David Larico Khara, Juan Jose participated in a community service project to talk about tooth decay in schools.

Juan José lives with his father and 5 brothers, as his mother died when he was very young. His father works in Oruro as a bricklayer, and is also a pastor in their church in Los Amigos. In his spare time, Juan José enjoys playing soccer and surfing the internet. He admires his aunt, who helped them growing up.

Loida Cutipa

Loida finished her Education studies at the Adventist University of Bolivia in 2007. In September 2008, she helped organize the first-ever national gathering of Young Quakers in Bolivia.
In 2001, Loida visited the U.S. with Cecilia Paco and talked about Bolivian Quaker education to Friends’ gatherings. Loida has also been studying English since she returned from the US, and now writes at least part of every letter to BQEF in English.
Loida was born in Quichawachini, near Sorata, and lives with her father and siblings in El Alto.

Lucio Mollo Ticona

Lucio, 40, is in his 5th of 6 semesters, studying Mathematics Education at the "Villa Aroma" teacher training institute in Lahuachaca. Lucio teaches at Quaker school in Bolivia and wishes to obtain a more advanced teaching degree. His wife works his family’s farm in Villa Alicia, they have 3 young children. Lucio is a member of an INELA church, where he plays the organ and acts as the secretary. His dream is to teach high-school Math, to help the youth, and offer his services as a tutor.

Lucio's studies are being sponsored by West London Area Meeting.

Lyliam Nilda Condori Charca

Lyliam finished her Public Accounting coursework at UMSA in 2006. Bernabé was happily surprised to find that it was Lyliam who met with him in the administrative office that is handling the personeria juridica (literally, "legal personality") for BQE-Bo.
Lyliam is a member of Santidad Friends Church.

Maria is in her 10th semester of Education studies at the Salesian University of Bolivia. She is part of the Cochabamba Model School project development committee. Her goal is to become a teacher so she can solve educational problems in the community. Maria also plans to get her bachelor's degree, work, help her family and support those who have helped her.

Marisol is in her 7th semester of nursing assistant studies at the Central University and is a member of the INELA Friends Church in the city of Cochabamba. She has 4 younger siblings, her parents are artisans.

Martin Canaviri Mamani

Martin is currently finishing his degree in Linguistics and Languages at UPEA. He became interested in this area when he was studying theology at a Bible Institute. His favorite subjects are Pragmatics and Syntax.

Involved in several writing projects for Santidad Friends, where he is a member, Martin edits “The Quaker” bulletin, is helping to write a Yearly Meeting history, and is developing brochures for the Seventh Day. Martin also wants to create communication materials for the Aymara language and for his church.

Miguel Torre Sanga

Miguel, 26, is in his 4th of 5 years of Computer Science and Telecommunications studies at the University of San Andrés. His parents came from the Altiplano, they moved to El Alto because there wasn’t a way of life in their town.

UPDATE: Nadir has completed her coursework in Elementary Education and is preparing a monograph to receive her degree as a kindergarden teacher. She plans to complete her degree and go on to study Education Sciences at the university.

Nadir, 20, is in her 6th and last semester of studying Elementary Education at the Simon Bolivar Teacher’s College. Before entering university, Nadir substitute taught in kinder garden. That dynamic experience inspired her to enter university, where her favorite subject is "Expression and Creativity" "because it is a very active topic, involving a great deal of creativity".

Oscar Willy Camargo

Oscar completed his Accounting studies in June 2005 at the age of 22.
In his letter of October, 2004, Oscar wrote “I will share with you about my studies. I am studying in order to be someone in life, and I have the desire to be a good professional and to occupy a very important place within my country and to feel satisfaction with the objective I have achieved. I can realize all my visions with the support which sustains me economically and which covers the cost that I incur in buying different study materials.”
Oscar is the middle of five siblings. The family lives in Sorata, where they are members of the Santidad church. The family depends greatly on agriculture, though his father also works as a tailor.

Panfilo Chura Aliaga

Panfilo Chura Aliaga was inspired to study Education Administration when he read a professional profile in a magazine that emphasized the importance of educational leadership. He finished his coursework at the Achicachi UPEA campus and is currently working on his thesis devoted to factors that empower interculturality in Achacachi high school students. His favorite courses were educational planning and curriculum development. He serves on the teaching staff in the Quaker school where he also works on health education projects.

Zulema finished her studies at the Higher Institute of Physical Education in 2005. She currently works as a Physical Education and Sports teacher in a public school. Zulema is a member of Santidad.

In 2005 she wrote to us several times:
April 2005

It is an honor for me to address you, wishing you success in all the works that you tackle, also to wish well-being in your families.

The motive for this is to send gratitude to you for the help that you give to us, which is important in the phase of life we are undergoing as young people. I want to (let) you know that already my studies begin and by means of God I will finish this semester satisfactorily.

I say goodbye with the most distinguished considerations.

Rebeca Tintaya Villavicencio

UPDATE,04-08-10: Rebeca writes that she has finished her studies and is now working as a Computer Sciences teacher in the schools. She also tells us that in college she won first prize in an expo with her project called "Control System for Educational Assistance". Her graduate project was a library management system with web interface, designed for the Central Library of UPEA, the public university in El Alto. The project goal is to enable locating and checking out books from the library via the web.

Rebeca, 25, is in her 8th of 10 semesters, studying Systems Engineering at the Public University of El Alto. Rebeca is a member of Santidad Yearly Meeting.

Roberto Patty Patty

Roberto finished his Educational Sciences studies at the Adventist University of Bolivia in 2005 at the age of 39. Before entering the university, he had worked for many years in the schools of Santidad as a para-professional teacher. Robert wanted to be a professional educator so that he could continue teaching children.
Roberto has also helped in the Quaker school in Batallas with the Directors Committee.
Roberto was born in Batallas, Los Andes province, where he lives with his wife and children. He is a member of Santidad Yearly Meeting.

Rocio Liz Arratia Sosa

Rocio Liz was 23 and in her 4th year of full-time Dentistry studies at UMSA when last we heard from her in 2006. Born in the city of La Paz, she lives there with her parents and three siblings.
Rocio Liz was on the Executive Committee of the Young Friends Society of Nueva Jerúsalem Monthly Mtg, INELA. Her father is a teacher at Colegio Max Paredes, one of the schools BQEF assists.
